N5434 ARIZONA TERRA / OROEL

Next to the BLACK, which flattens the grain and reads as a single dark shape, the TERRA shows the leather in full: a reddish chestnut, close to terracotta, with the streaks and tonal shifts of an oiled finish. In low winter light the colour leans towards copper; under a heavy sky it drops back to tobacco. The caramel sole carries on that range rather than cutting across it, so from a distance the shoe reads as one piece. It is also the colour of the five that shows wear soonest: the creases across the instep lighten within a few weeks and the lace leaves its mark around the eyelets. Anyone bothered by that is better off with the BLACK.

Who is OROEL N5434 in TERRA for?
For people who cover a lot of ground in different places on the same day: park gravel in the morning, polished concrete in an office or a gallery in the afternoon. It works with winter chinos, with tweed and with a waxed jacket, and it holds its own against dark clothes. Sizes 36 to 46, unisex. If you were after a quiet brown, this isn't one: there is red in it and you can see it.

Minimalist footwear
Hold it by the toe and bring it back towards the heel: it folds right over. UMANA measured flex and torsion above 360°, with 0 mm drop, a 10 mm sole and 299 grams, and certified it as Minimalist Footwear at 85.0% and 8.5 out of 10. In practice that means the forefoot can twist against the heel on a gravel path while the ankle corrects, and that as you push off your toes spread instead of sitting still inside the shoe. Steps to clean your shoes:

1. Use a dry brush/cloth. Remove loose dirt from the sole and upper with a soft-bristled shoe brush/cloth.
2. Then use a damp cloth to clean all parts of the shoe.
3. Air dry your shoe.
4. Moisturize your shoe with specific products for footwear (do not forget to check the product specifications according to the type of leather/fabric of your shoe).
5. Keep enjoying your shoes as if they were new.

The Comfort + last is wide across the forefoot and the Arizona leather gives sideways over the first few weeks, particularly over the big toe joint; it does not give in length, so choose by the length of your foot. With a medium-weight winter sock your usual size works; if your foot is narrow or your instep low, pull the top two eyelets in fully and the fit holds firm without crowding the toes.

The Arizona leather upper is built with few seams and a reinforced toe that holds the rounded shape of the forefoot; the oiled finish keeps light rain sitting on the surface for a while before it soaks in, but this is not a membrane and steady rain will get through. Inside, the 70% bamboo and 30% microfibre lining keeps the foot warm and moves moisture out when you go from the cold street into a heated room. The insole, 3.5 mm of 100% recycled textile, is loose and can be taken out to air or dry. Construction is 360° Strobel sewing, with the soft rubber sole stitched to the upper all the way round: no rigid lasting, so the shoe bends where the foot bends. The rubber grips well on wet concrete and metal stairs.
